"If we can lift up those who are the most marginalized, we can do a lot for everyone."

LGBTQ+ activist, Emmy-nominated actress and renowned motivational speaker Laverne Cox shared her empowering message of moving beyond gender expectations to live a more authentic life with Cheladv74 colleagues on Thursday, June 27th 2019.

The event, put on by OPEN (Out Cheladv74 Employee Network) in honor of Pride Month, drew a packed room in the New York Headquarters, while hundreds watched globally through a livestream. Moderated by Willard McCloud III, Vice President and Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion Worldwide Human Resources, Cox discussed many topics including "The Four I's of Oppression," the importance of the Stonewall riots, and attending The Met Gala.

Cox emphasized the importance of living authentically and being resilient, stating that, "Authenticity is really about letting go of who you think you should be to embrace who you really are. Letting go of what we think we should be and embracing who we really are, despite the many standards that we think constantly about is a practice that happens every single day. That is a multi layered process."

She went on to add, "Being comfortable in my own skin is a daily process. We must get clear about what the stories are that we're telling ourselves. Then reality check that, and then hopefully let it go. When you begin to own your story, you take the power away from your shame," she continued. "For me to be a black, openly transgender woman living my best life out loud is a miracle"

The theme of the event was "Bold Moves - Unleashing The Power of Pride."
